912 engine

Post by Aurele Lavigne » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

If anyone is looking for a 912 for their Rebel or other kit I"m looking at the possibility of going to a 912S since I'm on floats and could use the extra H.P.

My 912 was a certified engine that came out of a Katana from Diamond aircraft and was pulled for overhaul about two years ago at 950 hours TT and was re-registered U/L for my purposes. I have the original logs and less than 150 hours SMHO. The engine was overhauled by Rotech Research in B.C.

I will consider any serious offers.

912 engine

Post by Aurele Lavigne » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Bob, I spoke Gerry and they did'nt appear to be interested in a trade. I
sure would appreciate it if you gave it a try, maybe you have a better
chance.

By the way, what's your opinion on the performance difference? Do you know
waht my 912 is worth on the market, say a low and a high range.

Thanks, Aurele

I have just finished installing my stainless exhaust, went straight pipe
since I could't use the four in one muffler due to my radiator position in
the cowling. A little loud but seems to run fine. Also just installed the
Ivo, 3 -blade inflight adjustable but no real chance to try it out. A friend
with a Kitfox 1V and 912 setup reports significant take-off improvement with
some increase in cruise also.

Hi Aurele !

I doubt I'd have more luck with them - guess you'll have to
put an ad in COPA. Not sure of pricing - I've seen them from $6,000
to $13,500, with different hours, though.

I think you'll be amazed at the improvement in performance,
but you must use the 912-S mufflers AND intakes to get the power,
even if you have to move the radiator, although it should fit ....
(Those straight pipes are likely costing you at least 4-6 hp, over
the 4-into-1 muffler !!)

The prop should help quite a bit - keep us posted !
