I ordered my spinner from Vans. He said they try to shoot for around 1/4"
gap. Craig

Hi all
Can some one tell me what is the min distance there should be from cowl
to back of prop
Are most people with rebels and 0-320's using prop spacers or just
squeezing the cowl back
I have been pushing my nose bowl back so I don't have to use a spacer
but am wondering clearance need behind prop
cheers

Thanks Wayne, it is a 180 hp. It's Dennis Findley's old 130 hr
Aerosport
0360. Regarding the spacer, I thought the machine shop charge would
be
more
than the shipping to swap. Walter, I am using that cowl. I didn't
have
the
spinner or the airbox when I started fitting it. I should have been
thinking about three areas as I worked--the airbox, the spinner, and
the
attach points. Another thing I've noticed is that the carb seems to
be
offset slightly to the pilot side. Approx 1/2". That will take some
re-working too. Craig
On a side-note, I met up with Jay Yau in Palmer today. He was
weathered
in
waiting to fly to Mccarthy. I got to study his plane in depth and I
have
to
say that it is very nice. He's very happy flying it up here and it
was a
good shot in the arm for me. I only wish it hadn't been packed full
and I
could have begged a flight! Thanks, Jay.

Craig.. figure out exactly what you need without having to play with
the
cowling etc... and then take it down to the local machine shop. Pop
the
locating pins out and mill or turn the forward face down to the
thickness
you need for less than the postage of swapping someone.
1/2" bolts... you putting an O-360 in it?

It looks like I'm going to need a 2" spacer for my prop set-up. I
have
a
2.5" and somehow I ended up with a 1.5" gap between my front cowl
and
spinner. Not sure what happened but I did follow the MAM cowl
instructions. Maybe they are not made for a 2.5" spacer. Anyhow,
I
can
make up a 1/2" at the spacer and another 3/4" where the cowl
attaches at
the firewall. That will leave around a 1/4" gap. Luckily I have a
good
sized lip at the back to trim.
Anyhow, the prop is a Sens 74-56 w/ 1/2 bolts. I'd like to swap
with
someone rather than have to buy one. I'm guessing that they are not
cheap. Anyone have one they don't want or know of one? Thanks,
Craig
