[rebel-builders] Rebel - engines

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:05 pm

Hi Mario !

My O-320 Rebel climbs about 1,400 - 1,600 fpm in cold air, and
cruises about 118 mph at 2,450 rpm - burning about 8 gallons/hr..

We really enjoyed our 912 Rebel - it cruised at 97 mph, and climbed
about 1,100 fpm solo, 600 fpm at gross, on about 3 gallons/hr.
It was an 80 hp. standard 912 ....

Has anyone put diesel power in a rebel yet?

Nigel is heading that way with his Elite in England. Not sure anyone has a
viable option yet though...

Hi John
Yes and no !
There is an Elite here in England with a 120hp 3 cylinder diesel fitted and
ready to fly, but due to the paperwork hoops we have to jump through over
here it still hasn't flown. It's been ready to go for several months now !
:-(

I plan on fitting a 160hp version in mine when I finally get it finished :-)

Hi John !

None flying, that I know of, but some close ....

Saw a nice possibility at Sun 'n Fun last year -
105 hp - continuous, priced near a 912, under 200 lb.,

www.raptorturbodiesel.com

Looking forward to seeing it fly - initial testbed
is a Zenith 701 ....

New engines are exciting, ..... and risky ! :-)
Still, there's no doubt that 100 LL won't be around forever ...
