Sounds like you're really making progress !
There's NOTHING wrong with the standard Murphy tailwheel -
the vast majority of Rebels are flying with it. The initial reason
for using the Scott 3200 was to add weight to the rear, and secondary
was to get the cushioning of the pneumatic tire.
One possible Scott replacement might be the Murphy Elite
tailwheel - it's larger, and pneumatic - but you'd have to adapt
the mounting - it's designed for the tubular stinger. Another
possiblity is: http://www.irondesign-airparts.com/ - likely
more expensive than the Elite wheel, but less than the new Scotts.
The "spring" is another matter !! ;-( If you grind that
slab of aluminum so that it tapers from full thickness at the clamp
to about 1/2 thickness at the tailwheel, I think you'll find it
has enough bounce to be satisfactory .... and you COULD swap just
the wheel & tire for a pneumatic one (like the Matco ??) if you
want cushioning.
If the Matco has a single arm, there could be shimmy problems,
and I think a dig through the archives will find a couple of
instances of structural failures in Matco tailwheels.
Surprised you have Gold Matco wheels at that serial number -
your kit wasn't designated "Ultra-Light" was it ??? :-(
That would mean you have lightweight gear and wing spars ... :-(
In any case, if you make up 1/8" or so doubler plates for
both sides of the wheel web (in the center), you will be fine.
I flew for about 10 years on the gold wheels, at weights up to
(never over ! ;-) ) 1,650 lb, with no signs of cracks.
Those fat Dico or Carlyle tires are GREAT !!! They will really
smooth your landings ! They do wear quickly on pavement -
figure on replacement every couple of years - but they're cheap -
less than half the price of 'aircraft' tires !
Will try to post some info on the factory Radial Rebel
later today - might help.

Going to remove MAM tailwheel and spring?? for maybe Scott 3200.
Has anybody used the Matco pneumatic 8" tailwheel,if so what's it like.
Scott 3200 is expensive ,to Matco but is it that much better,
Would appreciate some info on this.
Also 595R 1997 model has MH6B gold rims with 8.00.6 tyres.
MTOW will be around 1200 LBS .
Have seen this discussed some time ago, cant recall what the outcome was.
Like to know if they will be OK ??.
Fired up the Rotec Radial last weekend ,sounds and looks awsome.
Should be flying by Xmas with a bit of luck .
Regards Rod .
