Rebel Ramble 2002 Update

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:18 pm

Hi Everybody !!

We're back in Brampton, after a few days of Rambling ! We went
up to Midland for the RAA Fly-in - this was the best one yet, with a
record turn-out (but still not enough campers) !

From there, on to Cornwall, where we spent a wonderful night
at Capricorn Capers B & B in Williamstown. This is a GREAT spot - it's a
millionaire's country retreat, with 40 acres of gardens and pond,
super comfortable king-sized beds, and filling country breakfast !
They picked us up from the Schnitzels Restaurant at the airport,
and delivered us back the next day, too. One of our all-time favourite
spots to visit !

From Cornwall, we flew up to Rockcliffe Airport in Ottawa,
and visited the National Aviation Museum. Been a few years, and they
have new displays - definitely worth a visit. Instead of stopping at
Smiths Falls, we decided to fly on back to Brampton for the
B & B (Burgers and 'Brown Pop') BBQ, since it was a beautiful clear
day, with CU up at 7,000 ft. ! We thermalled to 6,500 for the
trip, stopping for lift under the clouds along the way, and got
in for the BBQ, enjoyed with over 40 other pilots & friends.

A slow moving cold front has kept us here in Brampton for
a couple of days, but it should be gone by Friday morning, so
we plan to head up to Killarney about 10:30 - 11 am, for that
fish 'n chip lunch, then back down to Wingham, to get back on
schedule.

We'll land at the 'new' Wingham airport for fuel, then
maybe visit the 'original' Wingham airport (now owned by Tom Inglis,
who has saved it from the beans !). The Ramblers will likely
enjoy a good supper at the nearby restaurant, which has really
good wings ! A party usually follows, and then a night in the tent !

Saturday will be Rambling Back to Brampton day, with a possible
stop at Hangover for breakfast ! We have to do laundry & re-pack for
the trip to Oshkosh.... It looks like we'll be driving, as the
consensus seems to be that a transponder is needed to cross the border,
although that's NOT definite !!

At least we'll be better treated at OSH if we drive - I'm sick of
being stuck out in the boonies with no facilities because I choose
to camp under my wing in a homebuilt !! Driving will put us in
the improved Camp Scholler, with flexibility to get out of there
sooner ... it just isn't as much fun anymore.

***************************************************************
Hope some of you nearby Rebels can join us for this last
couple of days of Rambling !!! Fly or drive to Wingham !!
***************************************************************

.... and get started on your plans to join us next year for
"The Big One" - we plan to Dip a Toe In Both Oceans, heading WEST
to the Arlington show in early July, and EAST to the Stanley, NS,
fly-in on Labour Day. More details to follow - please let us know
if you want to be on the mailing list !!
