I understand that there should be a hole in the engine breather tube, in case the breather ices up and gets blocked. How far up the tube does the hole go and what is the diameter of the hole?

Hi Al !
What we usually do here is cut the tube with an X-acto knife
up near the top, where it'd be warm - maybe 6" from the block. All
you need is a straight slit maybe an inch long. This will normally
stay closed and not leak, unless the outside end of the breather
tube freezes up and the pressure builds. Then it opens and sprays
oil around - but it saves the crankshaft seals !! :-)
This is a good idea for ALL engines if you fly where the
breather tube condensation could freeze & block the tube !
