My Air System

I wasn't as ambitious as Dave. I bought a 2 gal wet \ dry vacuum that
had a blower output as well as vacuum. (A lot of the newer vacuum don't
have a blower output they exhaust the air around the motor which is
mounted on top.) I mounted PVC fittings in the output port and then
installed quick disconnects like they sell for your garden hose into the
fitting. I got the idea of using the vacuum after looking and listening
to the commercial units at SNF.

I used a garden hose that was approved for drinking water (marked on the
package) for my supply line and put quick disconnect fittings on both
ends. What I found was the hose marked approved for drinking water
didn't have the "plastic" odor the other hoses had.

On the mask, I found a plumbing fitting that would fit the cartridge
opening. I then mounted a 90 degree elbow in this fitting to direct the
hose toward the floor. I cut about 4 foot of garden hose (enough to
reach the waist without binding) and put a quick disconnect on the waist
end. I attached the hose to the 90 degree fitting with a small hose
clamp.

I looked at the homebuilt article that was listed a couple of messages
back before I did my thing. What I found was that after I bought a
blower motor and then built a box, it was going to be about the same cost
and faster to use the wet \ dry vacuum. I used the quick disconnect
fittings in my hose so I could disassemble the rig and store things out
of the way. The fitting at the waist is so you can support the hose
without having the weight of the hose pull your mask off.

Hi Terry

You have put together about what I used to use, I switched after getting some
not so nice things into the shop vac . The blower I am using is basically a
big version of the shop vac. The shop vac will work well although I had some
concerns about the temperature it reached.

Good tips on the potable water hose, we got some clear reinforced material at
an industrial supply vendor.
