SR Running Cables in the Tailcone

Post by Don Boardman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:39 pm

Hi Guys,

I have the Flap cable figured out.

I have the Rudder and Aileron cables figured out to the rear of the baggage
area and understand the function of the Aileron pulleys and basically where
both sets of cables end up at the tail end.

MAM says under CONTROL RIGGING, "NOTE: You will need to make and install a
channel to support the cables running down your Tailcone. Make the channel
the same length as the width of the midpoint bulkhead. Place and rivet the
channel to the bulkhead after installing the cables."
?????????

Question:

1. Can any one clarify how the rudder cables are routed between the baggage
area bulkhead and the very aft bulkhead of the tailcone?

2. Can anyone give me a better picture of what MAM is talking about in
referring to "channels to support the cables" sounds like I need to build a
version of the SkyWay?

Posting a couple of pictures would be worth a thousand words.

Thanks in advance,

I'll give you a better "picture" of the channel and other stuff tomorrow. I
have detailed pictures of Chris Gill's cable routing in the tailcone that
I'll upload to the server when I scan them in tomorrow. And I agree with
your unspoken comment...the controls section of the manual sucks.

Do not archive,

THANKS MIKE, the pictures will be much appreciated.

The amount of time it takes to figure out how to "reinvent the wheel" is
really frustrating, I would rather be cutting, drilling, riveting etc.,
instead of standing around scratching my head or flipping through the manual
trying to decipher what happens next ... what? have I missed something? is
there a reference somewhere else in the manual ?????.

I hate to be e-mailing Brian every day. He has been very good at answering
my questions but I know how busy MAM must be with sales doing so well. I
hope that in the future the manual can be updated to overcome its
shortcomings. I do believe MAM is working on it and also possibly a manual
for the Quick Build Kit.

WAYNE THANKS for your comments on the tail. I will be there shortly.

I appreciate all the help that those who have gone before me can provide. I
will be here for those who follow.

Don,
Glad to hear you have the flap system figured out. Just finishing the second
week of adding washers changing and adjusting to get the flaps to work. I
went with a Morse control cable on the inside of the cabin and eliminated
the cable through the cabin roof stuff.
The Morse cable attaches to a bellcrank above the right rear passenger
window. There is a push tube attached to the lower bellcrank arm that
attaches to the flap tube. All seems to work smoothly in the hangar. Still
have a couple of the mockup parts to redo and then go for final assembly.
By the way does anyone know what are flap-16's are for?
Al
