My directions are pretty clear on the added weights for the elevators (placed
in the fiberglass tips). What I am wondering is: "Are weights needed in the
rudder tip as well?"
Has any one got better directions or experience? I have the latest manual.

Counter weighted Rudder?
Counter weighted Rudder?
No Scott, Murphy does not supply or require the installation of a weight in
the rudder tip! When you consider that the rudder is doing the same function
(to a point) in the vertical (reference) "plane" as the elevator is doing
horizontally, I would contend that the weight in the elevator tips is there
more to stop the elevator from banging down when you let go of the stick, as
opposed to a flutter deterrent. Don't know of anyone that has experienced
flutter in any control surface of a flying Rebel, built per MAM's
directions, so put it our of your mind and just build per the manual without
buying a piece of lead to add to the rudder tip.
Regards.

Scott,
Just to add to what Wayne said; weights in the elevator help lighten the
stick forces.

Counter weighted Rudder?
May or may not apply to the Rebel, but I have experienced severe aerodynamic flutter in a Rand Robinson KR-2 at about 60 mph past the redline (long story). The only control surface that manifested flutter was the elevator. Nothing from the rudder. Maybe the rudder is just not as susceptible to flutter as the elevator. Luckily the control surfaces remained attached while I got things under control.
