Painting - again

Hi everyone,

I'm making great progress on my fuselage. You get a lot done in winter in
Fairbanks, Alaska. Question: How do I paint the bottom of the fuselage
once it is all finished, sitting on it's gear and full of stuff (pulleys,
cables, probably instruments, etc.). One obvious answer is to paint it
before it's on its gear and it can be manhandled by 3 or 4 people onto its
side. But what if I want to wait until the basic airframe is completely
finished? Kinda hard to put it on its side then. Guess I could lay on my
back and paint with the tail raised up somehow.

I sprayed a standard Rebel (primer only so far) by lifting one main
wheel up onto some concrete blocks as far as I dared. Shot half the top
and bottom and then reversed the tilt.

In regards to the featherfill primer filler that Dave recommends for his
fibreglass tips, I have been told that Evercoat has discontinued it in
favour of Slick Sand which seems to be the same thing with (I think)
lower VOC's. This stuff is a two part sprayable polyester primer that
can be built up and sanded. Most places that even know what it is only
sell such a product by the gallon but C-Max in Brampton (Toronto) got a
quart of Slick Sand with a days notice. Seems to work fine although it
doesn't fill pin holes very well. If I hadn't needed some filling for
some fairings I would have just used epoxy primer.

It is an automotive paint store one block north of an underpass on the
West side of Rutherford.

Slick Sand $28.62 per quart, part #102243 on the invoice. Dale was the
guy I dealt with and he seemed fairly knowledgable. The color (gray)
even matches your tips. It took almost 10 minutes to stir the stuff even
with an electric drill but I thinned it with a little acetone and
sprayed it on with a cheap spray gun.
