Vertical Stab alignment

Post by Mike Kimball » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:17 pm

Hi folks,

I just finished reading ahead in the manual and it looks like the fin is
attached with no offset on the SR. Thought I remembered y'all talking about
an offset for the Rebel. Murphy decide to deal with yaw trim with one of
those bent trim tabs on the rudder for the SR?

Vertical Stab alignment

Hi Mike,
I attached the fin as per the manual, but did add a rudder trim tab driven
with a MAC servo. The trim tab is a similar design to the elevator trim tab,
just a lot smaller.

Vertical Stab alignment

Peter,
The tab is 2"x11" and is in the second bay up from the bottom of the rudder.
I also stiffened the rudder skins by adding a stringer vertically on each
side, inside the large bays. The stringers are 1/2"x 1/2"x 11" bent up from
.020 6061 scrap.
The trim tab is actuated by a single wire push pull cable. The wire goes
through the rear of the elevator out the skin of the rudder near the trim
tab. The other end of the cable passes through the center of the rear fin
spar and connects to MAC servo mounted above the horizontal stab.
Al
