Trim Travel for Super Rebel

Post by Don Boardman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Hi All,

I just finished "roughing in" the trim tab servo on my Super Rebel elevator.
Running from the mid point of the servo's travel and neutral trim I am
getting aprox. 30mm nose up travel (slower) and 50 mm nose down travel
(faster). Changing the ratio to obtain more nose up travel will be easily
accomplished by shortening the trim rod.

My question is, and maybe Bob is the person who would know best, Does anyone
know or have an educated guess as to the desired elevator trim travel ratio
for a M-14P "Baby Beaver" on amphibs.

Happy Building,

SR130 M-14P "Baby Beaver" on amphibs.

Trim Travel for Super Rebel

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Hi Don !

Not the definitive answer, but the M-14P will definitely need
slightly more UP trim than down, unless you are flying at gross all
the time. We never flew without at least 150 lb. in the baggage area ...
(that round engine is heavy ;-) ) (I guess the best bet would be
at least EQUAL travel in both directions..)

FWIW, the trim tab on the standard SR is probably at least
25% larger than it needs to be - and could be a concern if you had
a runaway servo ..... just MHO .....
