prop mass addition

Post by Rick and Cathy Ford » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:48 pm

Hi Guys

Well I told you I would report back to y'all on how the 13lb steel ring added to my flywheel worked.
It didn't cost me $375 US plus shipping which equates to $600.00 Cdn.

The difference is phenomenal. . .

It's quieter in the cockpit, there is half the vibration there was, before, and start-up is not as abrupt.

I'm still playing with the pitch on the prop (3 blade 72" W.D. nickel leading edge).
I first had it set to 14 degrees and climbed out at 1600 fpm constant. Cruise was at 85 mph though.
I then increased it to 16 degrees and now I climb at 1200 fpm with 105 mph cruise.
I'm going to increase it again but only at 1 degree increments from here in.

Also, I was talking to an engine specialist, who told me I could change the carb setup and timing with this addition.
I'll be tackling that when I can get my brother to free up some time.

I'll report back after that period.
