In constructing the right wing, specifically, the main root rib, there is a
gap between the angle plate covering the stringer cut-out (under the root
rib flange) and the tank skins, caused by the root rib flange being
'sandwiched' between the two. I was wondering if anyone is filling that gap
with anything, other than the pro-seal. The manual doesn't mention anything
about it, but I was thinking of cutting some small .030 thick spacers with a
single #30 rivet hole to place between the tank skin and the angle plate to
fill that gap.

Or, will the rivet just force the two together with pro-seal filling any
remaining gap?

You and myself are pretty close in the construction. About 15 minutes ago, I just
got through making some small aluminum rectangle shims exactly like you mentioned.
Since there is no mention of this in the instructions, I am ASSuming that there
would be a bit of an indent if nothing was there to bridge the gap. Goop with
proseal and rivet in place with the tank skin.

Hi Roger.

I formed (banged) a little step in the angle using two 40 thou steel plates
(spaced apart the right amount) as a die and a makeshift square punch.
Worked out great.
I would not bother with spacers, Proseal will easily fill the gap.

Roger

You may not want to make things too complicated. It will be an annoyance
to fit extra spacers in while applying pro-seal. I can't really envision
why you'd need them anyway. The only gap I remember was an extremely
small (maybe 0.010") gap between the stringer and the angle plate caused
by the 0.032 wing rib flange being slightly thicker than the stringer
material. Perfect situation for sealing with pro-seal.

I left the stringer against the tank skin and then added the angle plate
last. The flange on my angle plates were only about a half inch wide,
similar to the flange on the rib. I'm sure there is more than one way to
do this but I found that the fewer pieces the better when the pro-seal
was sticking to me fingers.
