Wood prop

Hi to all,

I had intended on using a WD but have now been considering a wood Sensenich
because of the delamination problems. If I go this rout I might have a Mark
Landoll vibration dampener to sell. The wood Sensenich will Weigh less than
half a WD and dampener. I have not cut back the firewall so weight is my main
concern. Any one have experience with the wood blades? Other than not lasting
as long, do they perform the same as a metal Sensenich?

Bruce,

Not likely to work as well as the Sensenich, as I believe the secret as to
why the DM74 x 56 (or 52 on floats) works so well, is the fact that it
weighs 40 pounds. Once you get it up to speed, it is a huge flywheel with
lots of momentum to help pull the thing along. It also has VERY wide chorded
blade tips, in comparison to any McCauley or wooden propellor that I have
seen, giving a better bit in the air out were it counts (away from the nose
bowl).

So the wood Sensenich is a different shape than the metal Sensenich? For a
wood prop Sensenich recommended a W74EM 56. Do you think I would be better
off with the metal prop and extra weight, even if it made the plane nose
heavy?

Bruce, the Sensenich "DM" propellor I am talking about, has a wider blade
chord than any other Metal Sensenich prop I have seen either. If the wood
propellor Sensenich is suggesting has the same blade profile as the DM, it
might work almost as well. Although of course they don't last long when you
get caught flying in heavy rain, or as Bob has spelled out if you don't
hanger your plane.

If you decide to sell the dampner, I'm interested.
I already own the prop, and I plan on installing it this next month. I had convinced myself to now go with the dampner, so let me know, I'll have to order one.

I think I'll go with the WD prop but haven't made up my mind on the dampener.
You might just go ahead and buy one if you're that close to needing one. I
may change my mind.

Hi all,
Maybe the group discount would help! I could order them to my place and
then bring them to a builders meeting. When the weather gets nice, I
believe that's every weekend!
Really though, if that call is made, and a group count is needed, count
me in.

Just an aside, I'm putting the bottom skins on the second float now. got
the back half done last night.
someone asked about a reason not to close the back up as per the
instructions, I really can't think of a good reason, other than just look
ahead to make sure your not causing yourself extra work, like running lines
etc. after the close
