I did not go with the Rebel group but as flying a light aircraft means you
do not have ground transportation. Why cant camping be at the any airport be
allowed. We have never turned anyone away in Welland Ontario to the best of my
knowledge.
In most cases it would be one night only and a $5 donation should not be
turned down for camping under the wing.
Also one would like to once aircraft too be safe in a strange place.So why
would the airport authority not want a owner to look after his or her aircraft.
Theft form another aircrafts parked at the airport by an aircraft owner is a
possibility but unlikely.
I rather keep a fellow aviators aircraft as safe as mine, may it be wind or
theft.
Invite them to the Oshkosh, or a local fly inn sometime and let them see how
we operate.

Actually the guys may have scared away some burglars that broke into a
building the night they camped at Drummond Is.
I suspect that Vernon has a unrealistic vision of corporate and
scheduled jet service and not light aircraft. The excessive tie down fee
(for no tie downs) pretty much says "not welcome". THe flying club on
the other hand was amazingly hospitable and welcoming so I too must sit
down and write a letter...

Yes, we think Ken is right. Peter and I camped at the airport on Drummond
Island and when we arrived back at the airport after dinner, we're sure the
lights of the "courtesy car" ( a 10 year old Cadillac that was made
available to us free of charge - just add gas - by the way this was the same
at a lot of airports across Canada and the northern States - Glasgow Montana
had two cars for us again - no charge - these airports welcomed general
aviation) scared someone that had just broken a window in the golf course
club house on the other side of the airport. We were asked in the morning if
we had heard or seen anything and the only thing we could think of was a car
or truck leaving the club house. Nothing was stolen - but a window had been
broken.
