Float spray rails

Hi~~Does anyone know why MAM 1800 amphibs would have an outboard spray board? I have a set built in the Philippines. I just started flying them and after busting my shins a couple of times, I realized they would not dock without tearing them up. Before I take the sawzall to them, I figured I'd like some input. ~~Thanks, Bill Foster 630E
