I had a look at that article a while ago as well and was impressed by
Zenair's quality control. Michael, if I were you, I would go ahead and buy
the aircraft as it is a fantastic airplane. But simply order the kit
without the rivets, obtaining a suitable discount, & then buy the rivets
from Zenair or discuss your rivet purchase with your local Textron Avdel
salesgroup. We have one close by here in Brampton & I found them very
helpful. It was great to actually see information about a product we use so
much of i.e. the 1/8" rivet RV 1410's.
My thoughts any way. You will love the Rebel.

Yes, when Rivets Unlimited's stuff was first introduced it worked fairly
good. I built a single wing a few years back when they first changed to RU
as a supplier and they worked fine. If you find that the rivets you have go
into the holes fairly easy(by hand), they are not the bad rivets that RU has
started to produce lately (last 2 years or so) that must be forced into the
holes with the gun 90% of the time.
If you are having problems with the ones you have though (depending who is
paying for the shipping to/from Kangaroo Land) definitely trade them in for
new ones.

I've had all my RV-1410's replaced by MAM. They asked me to ship them to the
company's U.S. address in Sumas, Washington. Since this was a U.S. business
address, United Parcel Service guaranteed 2 day delivery at 'UPS Ground'
rates. I tracked it via internet and it did arrive at Sumas in two days.
Doing it this way avoided A LOT of paperwork with UPS. It also avoided a lot
of extra shipping charges. Using MAM's U.S. address, the UPS Ground rate
was less than twenty dollars. That included insurance on the replacement
value for 8,427 rivets. Weight of my package was just under 20 pounds. I had
been quoted in excess of fifty dollars, had I shipped it directly to
Chilliwack.
For some reason though, Elaine told me they would not ship the replacement
rivets until they received my shipment at MAM in Chilliwack. It took several
days for my package to get cleared through Customs. I did not understand why
they wanted to do it this way, because it certainly delayed my progress.
Elaine let me know when they shipped the new rivets, and I had them in about
three days. That was the quickest delivery I had ever had from MAM. Overall,
I was very pleased with the whole process. Yes, it cost me twenty bucks, but
I just closed my vertical stabilizer and I have to say it was well worth it
to have not one rivet "break proud", as Wayne O'Shea likes to say.

draw the doubler for the SB. I only pressed MAM to issue the SB after
repeatedly finding cracked bulkheads or sheared rivets in this area on
customers Rebels. I don't put the relief's in the corners at the tab (as
shown in the SB), as they are not needed to bend a tab up in one direction
(unlike the original bulkhead that has flanges up and down). They also just
give a place to start a crack again!
The rivets should say RV1613 to match what you already have supplied in your
kit.

Rivets
Does anyone have any RV 1619 rivets they want to sell or trade for RV
1613's? I can get by with 100 or so, but would be willing to purchase or
trade for more.

Jean,
They are similar to women. Just because one may look like another you can bet they don't function the same. If you pull a pop rivet by itself you will see the mandrel just pulls down inside the barrel, expanding it. If you pull an Avex you will see the barrel shortens first, expands slightly and only then does the mandrel pull down inside the barrel. Pull a mandrel from each and you will see the pop mandrel is like a finishing nail while the avex has a flat underside (like a mushroom). That is why the Avex shortens first and the pop doesn't.
The advantage is that the Avex expands to completely fill that carefully drilled hole and tends to pull the sheets tighter, the pop doesn't Pop rivets are fine for building Porta Potties (take a look next time) but please use Avex for airplanes.
