The bushings would defeat the purpose of oversizing the lexan holes IMHO. I
drill everything at #30.. and then open the lexan holes up 2 fraction sizes
bigger than 1/8ths in my drill box. My brain's toast these days.. but I
think that one's 5/32. Pull rivets with the least amount of air pressure
possible and slowly.

Hi Kelly !

You really should be using the Murphy window frames !
The Lexan just floats in these frames, with NO holes, just
sealant.

Also, the windows should be LEXAN - if you use plexi, you
definitely need bushings to avoid too much pressure.
Even drilling the holes will be a challenge ...

I also missed you stating Acrylic... I wouldn't even consider same for all
the side windows and skylights. Cracks way too easy, both working with it
and over time from vibration. Lexan gets scolded for the inability to break
it in a crash senerio to get out through a window.. but the Murphy doors
aren't that strong anyhow that you wouldn't have that kicked open before a
side window pane anyhow.

Hi guys sorry for the confusion. I'm working on the bubble windows. ( Pilot and Co- Pilot)

So I'm confused, in the MAM instructions it says "Acrylic" and the bubble windows I have from MAM. I would assume are acrylic.

I called LP Aero and they told me to use the bushing's ?

Side note: is plexiglass not a brand name for Acrylic ?

I also missed you stating Acrylic... I wouldn't even consider same for all
the side windows and skylights. Cracks way too easy, both working with it
and over time from vibration. Lexan gets scolded for the inability to break
it in a crash senerio to get out through a window.. but the Murphy doors
aren't that strong anyhow that you wouldn't have that kicked open before a
side window pane anyhow.

Well I guess you have no choice on the material then. FWIW.. my LP Aero
Rebel windshield is drilled and bolted THRU the windshield in at least 100
places, as per MAM's original install instructions. It's been in place for
15 years now... on floats for 5 summers without issue. Holes just drilled
oversize and no bushings.

Of course now that I've said that I'm glad I have a spare here in a box....

You will hear LOTS of suggestions !! :-)

The windshield manufacturer strongly recommends
Bostick 1100 - they even sell it. You can get it at most
hardware or lumber stores, in caulking gun cartridges,
in several colours - I like gray ...

Have used it on several Rebels for windshields,
skylights, and side windows - stays flexible, even in winter.

form. Now easier to install, without the holes ! ;-)

Can't remember the setup for the bubble windows -
thought the swing-up windows had a doubler to hold the

I find it hard to believe that LP Aero used a "foreign" material to form
windshields (vs every other one they make), instead of using their standard
cast cell acrylic sheet. I really can't see them using Lexan Bob... and I
know my very first windshield circa 1993 was acrylic. The only change I know
of from the original moulded windshield, that Robin could tell you what
speed it popped back out at to the current one, was the addition of more of
a hump in the center to stop the in/out pop.

The only original Rebel windshield that was Lexan, TTBOMK, was the center
post and wrapped sheet windshield for the earlier kits, pre moulded
windshield availability. When the moulded ones came out, MAM's supplied
install kit gave you the deraked drill bits for drilling the acrylic, a big
bag of bolts/nuts and instructions on how to drill and bolt in place.

The Lexan just floats in these frames, with NO holes, just
sealant.

Also, the windows should be LEXAN - if you use plexi, you

definitely need bushings to avoid too much pressure.
Even drilling the holes will be a challenge ...

Agree that bushings are likely overkill. This plastic expands about 3
times more than aluminum so oversize holes are good. I also like to use
aluminum rivets with ALUMINUM mandrels that do not expand (non avex) as
they don't pull very hard before breaking off.

The windshield manufacturer strongly recommends
Bostick 1100 - they even sell it. You can get it at most
hardware or lumber stores, in caulking gun cartridges,
in several colours - I like gray ...

Have used it on several Rebels for windshields,
skylights, and side windows - stays flexible, even in winter.

Wayne - the EARLY LP Rebel windshields WERE Lexan !!
They switched later to Plexi ... much easier for them to
form. Now easier to install, without the holes ! ;-)

Can't remember the setup for the bubble windows -
thought the swing-up windows had a doubler to hold the
Plexi without drilling it .... been a long while ...
You definitely want the opening side window kit !! ;-)

The bushings are likely to prevent the fastener from gripping too tight
and then you won't have to worry about pulling the rivet gently. I would
make the hole in the acrylic/lexan oversized for the bushing as well.

As much as I like Lexan for durability it is softer and scratches easily.
Just the act of cleaning it to remove the daily layer of dust will probably
lead to a early permanent Halo which is not too desirable when facing into
the sun.
