To add to that... this engine is running WELL.. works well and has been
flawless... just don't take the 160 HP rating to heart that Crossflow stated
in their advertising.

Given a choice, I would have an O or an IO-320 Lycoming. The reason I was able to buy the rebel I have cheaply was because it has a sub. I have a pair of Lycs in my Twin Comanche.
About the only good thing I can say about the sub it that it burns auto gas and less per hour.
I would prefer the Lyc in my rebel.

My neighbor has an O-235 lycoming. We use exactly the same runway on takeoff. He is 10 Kts faster in cruise. But i have tundra tires withbungees. My warp drive prop turns 2400 on takeoff. I am considering changing the blade angle to get 2600. The engine is already making so damn much noise that I am reluctant to do it.

I have a Rebel with a Subaru but can honestly say I have never flown behind the engine. I purchased the plane after it was damaged. I did talk to the builder about it though and he said he really liked its performance. He flew it a total of 300+ hours before selling it to the guy the damaged it. It has the Formula Power with Ross PRSU. My initial plan was to use the engine for my kit but after going to pick the plane up I realized the plane could be rebuilt and decided against salvaging it. I'll either sell it or rebuild it.....some day. LOL

Agree that most folks would be better off with the Lyc. I recommned not
going with an auto conversion if the motivation is financial or you are
in a hurry to get flying. Very few conversions seem to put out the
claimed power in practice regardless of what a dyno might say. So far
I've not seen a vendor of subaru firewall forward conversions that I
could recommend to be worth the cost and risk.

I have 400 hours on a 2.2 soob but have had issues with the psru which
is not uncommon. It is at least as heavy as an 0-320 but I don't need to
carry as much fuel as long as I econo cruise which I always do. It seems
to be able to pretty much match a fixed pitch 0-320 for take off and
climb performance but the Lyc's cruise considerably faster than me. I
really like the smoothness, no carb heat or mixture (it is EFI), no
preheat required, instant starting (it still thinks it is in a car), no
shock cooling issues, and 4.5 gph burn (5 gph on amphibs). It is the
quietest airplane on the field and has never missed a beat no matter how
fast the throttle is moved.

It can be a bit of a pain obtaining mogas on long cross country trips as
leaded fuel does not play well with 5W50 synthetic oil or an O2 sensor.
But then again I also think that leaded avgas should have been outlawed
years ago anyway! :)
