Bolt Distances on Bungee gear (Bob P.?)

Post by hibbs » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:38 pm

Bob or others. I am building my bungees right now with the tool
provided by Bob (ftp://ftp.dcsol.com/murphy-rebel/rebel/bgrings.jpg).
This drawing has the bolts 7.5" apart. After struggling to mount just
one of the loops, I see that the bolts on my GEAR are 8.5" apart. Is
that the same distance that others have? Both my manuals specifically
don't call out this distance but refer to it as "distance A". If my
bolts are an 1" farther apart, the two bungees I just made are too
short.

Bolt Distances on Bungee gear (Bob P.?)

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:38 pm

Hi Scott !

Not a big problem - I've noticed several different distances.
I thought the drawing even said to use YOUR distance ...

Depending on how much (40 % ??) you stetched them, the rings
you have might still be ok - especially if you put them on opposite
gear legs. The advantage of having separate rings is that, even if
one fails, you still have a couple left ! Having one ring per side
that's a bit stiffer probably won't make a big difference.

Sounds like you should change to 8.5" for the bolts - or just
use less stretch ...
