[rebel-builders] FUS 7 & Moving Firewall Back 3"

It is nice to see that everyone has their personal opinion on firewall
position......... that's what an open forum is for.

But some consideration should be given to the designer's insight on why the
firewall is positioned where it is and why....... take the time and read.

Hi,

I am in the middle of this job. I must say it has been an experience.
Lots
of work the manual doesnt tell you I found. I only have 1 more fuse 70 to
install. If you would like i can send you pics of what I've got so far.
Bob
Patterson said " oh no " when I told him I started in on it. He was right
but too late it is done. It will turn out ok but lots of frigging around
to
do it. If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't have done it but
like i said, so far so good, 1 pc. to go. Just lots of extra time.

We are at the point where we are putting FUS 7 and the firewall in to
the
Rebel. We are putting in a Lycoming 0290 and the plans say cut the
flange
back on FUS 7 3 inches but the picture shows cutting FUS 7 all the way
across. If we do this won't the fuselage stick out on both sides? The
cross pipes FUS 5 will be too long then? What exactly are we supposed
to
do here?

Wow Jeff,
I have asked this question countless times and finally decided to chop the firewall. This was the first time that someone has presented actual numerical data to support their claims. Thanks

Robert,
Even though it may be years before I get to the point of thinking about firewall issues I have been folowing all the feedback I can and the best part of cutting it back is having the designers blessing and the ability to lose some weight! Since I fly out of the boonies any extra weight is always a worry. Heck by the time I get to the point of doing it who knows ....might even be able to fly behind a diesel!
