[rebel-builders] Rebel limmitations

Post by Gary Gustafson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:35 pm

I do not believe that the FAA wants Va placarded these days, but that
is up to the individual examiner. There are some peculiarities that
individual examiners have and will create a punch list of minor things
to change before first flight. Mine had some odd items, but I did them
with laughs of hanger mates, recorded in log and then had my Rebel
flown for first time.

For what it is worth, I think the V speeds are as follows:
Va - Cruise speed - 110 mph
Vno - normal operating speed - 120 mph
Vfe - Full flaps extended speed - 80 mph

If not, someone correct.

I have my airworthiness inspection in less than 2 weeks and trying to scrape
together the required documentation to make the examiner happy. I can't find
Va, Vno, or Vfe.
can anyone help? I hear the FAA wants Va to be placarded these days
thanks.

Subject: [rebel-builders] First Flight # 719

Murphy Rebel N547A SER# 719 took to the air for first time . Liftoff
at
about 600 ft on the grass, I held it down a little for the airspeed to
come alive, more on that later. Aircraft seems to levitate rather than
rotate. Clime rate seems normal for this power ,LYC O-235 and wing
loading. Controls are VERY light with little feedback but are not
twitchy
and no tendency to over control. Very stable at cruise but seems to
have
neutral stability on this short flight. All engine ops normal ranges.
All
pitot and static instruments seem to wander quit a bit and could not be
trusted so more testing, and experimenting will be necessary. Landing
was
accomplished with no problems at KPLR after 33min of flight with use of
lift reserve indicator for airspeed control . Many THANKS to ALL my
aviation Buddies without which this project would not have been so much
fun. Many THANKS to the frequent posters of REBEL BUILDERS whose
experience kept the project rolling. Special thanks to Cris who !
got this ad
venture started.

Video of first flight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aQMkiaM8uI

Aircraft description
Lyc O235C1
Culver 74X46 Prop (too much pitch, Max RPM 2375)
Grumman Yankee exhaust (very Quite)
B&C 8amp alternator
sky tec starter (Dick Waters supplies)
Odyssey 680 Battery
UMA steam gages
Garmin 296GPS/Docket mount
Icom 210a comm
Lift Reserve Indicator (very handy when airspeed ind inop)
Firgelli electric flap actuator

Second and third flights not nearly so exicing. GREAT plane, FUN to
fly.
Static system problem improved by sealing original static ports and
relocating 1/16th in. holes 2 in. from tip of STD MAM probe.
Performance
tests ongoing, so far follow MAM data.

Keep on pulling those rivets Thanks
Rusty

thanks Drew and Gary,
I forgot about the flight manual that is on cd. All the stuff is in there. I have so many things in my brain right now trying to get this thing airworthy that I can't keep things straight.
