I'm just starting my SR2500. Are the Ontario Mods included in the technical
support web page for the Moose or can someone point me to a reference that
lists all the mods?

Regards,
Jerry Folkerts

Let me know which section you do first (e.g. rudder, fin, whatever) and I'll
try to send you mod pictures, tips, tricks, whatever for that section.

[rebel-builders] Question re Ontario Mods

Post by Rick Johnson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:34 pm

Are there any mods for the moose in the door sill and fuselage floor area (or any area for that matter) that are not documented on the Murphy website that the general consensus is that they are needed?

Thanks

Rick

[rebel-builders] Question re Ontario Mods

Post by David A. Ricker » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:34 pm

Jerry

I'm building an Elite which has much in common with both the Rebel and
maybe more so the SR so I'll offer an opinion or two on your SR build
and maybe someone with familiarity with all 3 can jump in too. I think
though the take away is that you should look at all of the areas
addressed in the mods suggested and decide if they apply to the way your
SR is designed and adapt as necessary.

I'm planning to look closely at the firewall strengthening as described
in the "Ontario Mods" for example but things like the door sill mod has
been built into the Elite design. One thing to look closely at is the
Elevator and Rudder hinge mount points at the Stabilizer and Fin rear
spar, cracks are turning up in the Stabilizer spar on Elites with ~300
hours and I believe the same is happening on the SR.Moose which uses the
same design. I believe there is an SB on this for the SR, SBs can be
had from the MAM web site or in Mike D's archive, see the footer for
access instructions to the archive. I believe there is also an issue
with the Aileron mount brackets with the SR/Moose but I'll leave it to
builders of those to speak up. There are several SBs on the Elite
elevator control horn mounting and the design is shared with the rudder
so having a look at that might pay too.

Bottom line do not blindly trust that the design is bulletproof or
proven over a long life like your average Cessna. If something looks
questionable to you don't dismiss it because "it came that way so it
must be right", use a healthy skepticism. Ask the group here and keep
your eyes open.

Good luck with the project and welcome to the fun!

Dave

[rebel-builders] Question re Ontario Mods

With respect to the Elite elevator hinge points cracking. I didn't
notice that our rudder and horizontal stab rear spars were bowed about
1/8th inch in the middle until we were installing the elevator and
rudder. We ended up putting in a spacer under the middle hinge to bring
them back into alignment. If those hinges are not perfectly aligned
there would be additional flexing at the hinge points. It might be a
good idea to check that those spars sit perfectly flat before installation.
