[rebel-builders] Rebel Gas Cap

Post by Eduardo Gutierrez Sosa » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:34 pm

Hi Andrew: Sorry to hear that you lost the gas cap; that tends to be an
emergendy situation because you can't fly without it. I would get at least
two new ones and take a spare one on board, or there is a method to chain
them to the tank without making any holes, obviously. I have a Moose and got
mine at Aircraft Spruce, even with two keys to lock them. Regards, Eduardo

FYI - This will be obvious to many but... a gas cap retainer photo is at:
http://n254mr.com/node/982 I got the stainless shash chain at
http://www.kilianhardware.com, the ~90 deg. springs at a local hardware
store, and bent ~5/8" of each spring leg outward to grip the inside of the
filler neck. IMHO, the retainer is mostly to keep the cap from rolling off
the wing during fueling and mangling the snorkel vent. I also carry a spare
cap w/snorkel vent.

Just never take the chain for granted.. that's how most of them get lost.
Pop the cap.. drop it on the wing and DANG.. the chain is broke!

I take mine off, to fill the tank, and put it in my pocket.

Back to Anrew's original question, I'm wondering if you can get replacement caps anywhere? There are some in the ACS catalog that look similar, but not sure.

Acs has a Piper vented cap and 180 HP cap that has a snorkel on it that both look similar to the MAM style.

When I wanted to get a couple caps for spares, the only ones I could find
that would fit were from MAM. Whether MAM still has any to sell at this
point -- don't know. Sure would be nice to confirm another source.

[rebel-builders] Rebel Gas Cap

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:34 pm

Oh man, don't leave your planes out of sight guys...Rebel fuel caps are going to become a hot commodity. I knew I should have riveted my filler neck flanges to the outside of the tank skins. Now when I lose a fuel cap I'm going to have to open the tank just to put on a different filler neck/cap combo. That's what vanity will get you.
Seriously though, there must be a replacement out there somewhere. If not from mam then hopefully they would divulge the supplier. It looks like a generic part...probably not aviation.

Hello All

Don't know if this will satisfy your needs. I purchased a pair of Fuel caps
from ACS at Oshkosh 2010. I did not like the caps Murphy furnished with my
Rebel kit. For one they were perfectly round and I like the lobes for
leverage for the thump and middle finger I also want to install

Charlie, do these caps from ACS fit on the Murphy filler necks? They look like they are threaded. My caps are the cam style (about 1/2 turn) with no threads.

Jesse, I believe 05-01060 screws into 05-02711. The caps (05-01057 & 58)
themselves grab the cam lobes you see on 05-01060.

If these fit the stock Rebel neck, they'll soon be out of stock. :)

Polarized periscopes on each tank cap. They came with a 1/8 rubber gasket
which is a little too thick. I plan to weld in a S.S. periscope and
replace
the 1/8 gasket with one about 1/16 or 3/32 thick. ACS # 05-01057
Un-vented
$8.80 each. Page 157.

Hopes this helps.
