free play kills tapered roller bearings. Yes they may have noticeable
drag when turning by hand but that is expected. A little overtight is
better than under tight, same as for car axle bearings.
My 4 door cowl is all 0.020 and it has been problem free but all the
hinge and fastener edges are doubled or reinforced with angle. If you
don't have access to rollers I believe MAM suggests wrapping the doors
around a cylinder to get some curve in them.
