Electric ignition

Post by Charles Bailey » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:34 pm

Curt, and all,

I would like to put a MSD cdi system on my engine
using two coils, and one mag.
Can a MSD system be used? And how is wired?
In looking at the MSD site, I can't see how to wire
the system without using a distributor.

Can anyone help, or is it best to buy a lightspeed
system.

Hi Bruce,
I guess All I can say to the question of does it
run differently, to do a mag check I have to put the
cdi in the "no advance mode". In other words it's
like having two mags again. Otherwise I can hardly
tell. I mean that the drop in rpm with the mag off
is less than I can really put a number to. Maybe the
witdth of the needle. Now I can only imagine the
efficency would be even better with two of them.

Electric ignition

Hi Chuck,
The premade systems are first of all going to keep you from doing the engineering. They have a processor that takes all the info from the engine and puts the spark in the right place for work load and rpm. Along with that the pickup points are ready determined and the brackets are included in the kit. Want to be a true experimenter? Do it yourself. Want the hazards of a possible loss of ignition lessened? Go with those that have done it for you. My .02 Curt N97MR
