The first thing that you should do before considering building an
aircraft is to experience flying one. Many flight schools offer
introductory flights at a very low cost. Bring your questions to one of
those and the instructor will explain with a demonstration the elevator
and flaps. It will be fun and rewarding.

Bob.

Hello there,
I am looking at buying a used rebel but I am looking at reworking the dash
with the Dynon skyview and adding a few more electrical items. One of the
things I want to add is a Automatic Flap Positioning system that also
controls elevator and trim. I have a few questions about the elevator and
flaps:
1. What would the flaps full upposition be used for? Is that used when
say taking off the runway to grab altitude?
2. What do the different positions of the flaps do? I understand it's
for cruising but what exactly happens to the craft when you use the
different flap settings?
3. What is the elevator's purpose?
4. I will be flying over land with this aircraft no water floats. Is
this flap positioning and elevator trim system actually necessary?
Thanks for the answers this will be an an educational learning experience
for me.
