[rebel-builders] ms24540 angle

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:58 pm

Jason

FWIW I did not have enough of the angle material and did not hesitate to
substitute almost any angle material for the aft bottom skin stiffeners.
Fortunately I was suspicious and measured things out to make sure I had
enough for the chines. I strongly suspect that any of the MSxxxxx
aircraft extrusions are 2024T3 or similar which is much stronger than
commercial 606x aluminum but there are a lot of places where the
strength is not an issue.

So personally I'd be comfortable substituting any same size 2024 angle
from Aircraft Spruce (Brantford) etc. And I'd be happy with commercial
606x in places like the aft bottom skin stiffeners.

Leavens and Grass roots (think they moved North from Oshawa a couple of
years ago) likely also stock the 2023 material.

would anyone be able to tell me if it would be OK to substitute the ms
24540 angle supplied with the floats with extruded angle. It is for all
the skin stiffeners and the attach angles for the spray rails. Is it
all 6061 T6 alum.?There was enough in the kit for the chines but not
much more.Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks
