[rebel-builders] Tank Rivets - HELP

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:54 pm

Leaves you in a real pickle since you need to get that pulled down before
the PRC cures. My tanks are completed riveted with RV1410's..top and bottom.
Not an issue, especially on the bottom where you can give them all a coat of
PRC from the inside.... since the top skin isn't in place yet... or is it??

Now you say you are out of 6403's... 6402's are plenty long enough for most
stuff in the fuel tank....

For some reason I have run out of tank rivets (6403) half way through
installing the bottom tank skin. Is there another rivet that will suffice.
I
thought I read in my original plans (1988) that the tank was riveted with
1410. The proseal is on and curing...

[rebel-builders] Tank Rivets - HELP

Roland,

The original tanks (wet wing) were riveted together with RV1410 rivets, just
make sure you seal the tails very well.

Otherwise the supplier for the Tank Rivets is Mattic
http://www.mattic.ca/index.html

Good luck, tic toc tic toc (that's the clock counting down)........

Cheers,
Jeff

[rebel-builders] Tank Rivets - HELP

Thanks Wayne,

Top skin not on... so no issue there. I do have a bag labeled ABS 43H...
looks very similar to the 6403s, but don't know where they are used in the
kit. I guess I will continue with the 1410s.

[rebel-builders] Tank Rivets - HELP

Make sure you roll the tips well in PRC before insertion and then go over
them once everthing is pulled. Get someone lined up to flip that wing asap
after you get them pulled!

No idea what the ABS 43H is.. never seen that.. but if they are just labeled
wrong and are identical to your 6403's what you waiting for... lol

We all call them tank rivets but suppliers like Mattic call them closed
rivets. Same thing.

Thanks to all who responded so quickly, especially Wayne and Ron's offer.
What a great group. I did continue with 1410s and will re-seal from the
inside. Gotta love this proseal stuff... could give a new meaning to tarred
and feathered.

Happy Holidays to all...
