[rebel-builders] Tank rivets
[rebel-builders] tank rivets
Hanson rivet supply has everything you mention Garry. Their reference
charts let you pick the right length based on thickness of material. Here's
the link to their tank rivets: http://www.hansonrivet.com/w22.htm

I find in the archives reference to tank rivets as RR6403 - this is the
1/8" normally used for the fuel tanks.
I would also like to get some 5/32" and 3/16" tank rivets (for floats).
Not sure they exist.
Some suppliers do not recognize this designation and seem to need a 4
digit number like 16xx in front in place of the RR.
Anyone have useful info on this.

No, I've used only the aluminum rivet with the steel mandrel. Pricey (e.g.
like $50+ per thousand) but seem to work Ok. Some break off and have to
later but trimmed with a dremel, but I had that problem too with ones I got
from Murphy. Sometimes it helps when I adjust my rivet gun(s), but
sometimes no matter what I try a few rivet mandrels break off half-way or
so.

[rebel-builders] tank rivets
Mattic is very good to deal with. I have used them the last couple of months.
The tank rivets are not AVEX as AVEX doesn't make a closed rivet and I am
not sure who makes them for Mattic. I also have had problems with the
mandrels breaking. I think the main problem for this is that the hole is to
tight. I found if you pull them manually they don't break as much, but the
best way would probably re drill the hole if the rivit is hard to get in.

[rebel-builders] tank rivets
Thanks Ray. I've never had a problem with mandrels breaking off ---
yet.... The broken off ones were done by others and I suspect,
because of the awkwardness of the typical location that it might be side
loading on the puller. A straight pull doesn't seem to generate that
problem.

Might or might not mean anything but I use a regulator to drop air
pressure to minimum and have never had a 6402 or 6403 mandrel break off.
0 out of 22,000 is good odds. I have had a couple of the longer 6406
ones break off.

I have had good luck with Mattic as well. The only problem has been
Canadian mail to US postal. Both orders from Mattic took over a month and
one had to be resent, which they did gladly. Also, their part number for
3/16" tank rivet is 6604.
