[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

I'm interested in a test flight plan, too. I'll bet you Ron S has one
humdinger of one! Just a gut feeling. :)

[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:21 pm

I just uploaded my Flight Plan for first flight based on the Amateur Built
Aircraft Flight Testing Handbook and some checklists I created for my Super
Rebel to the S/M-Miscellaneous section of the archives if anyone is
interested.

[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

Post by Ron Shannon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:21 pm

Craig,

While I appreciate your confidence, my only plan for the first flight is to
get up and get down... onto a runway. <g> After that, I plan to follow most
of the FAA's excellent flight testing guide -- IMHO, one of the best of all
the FAA publications.

Ron

[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

Jim,

It will be awhile yet. Windshield, tips, brakes, doors, cables, fairings...
and other diddly stuff to go. Except for fuel line testing, it's ready for
the pickle-oil-to-break-in-oil change and engine start, but I'm putting that
off until I'm a little closer to flying, to minimize running the new engine
at low ground RPM just to keep it lubed. I want to break it in running
pretty much flat out, of course.

I have predicted it will fly sometime in this decade... but only after being
assured the decade runs through 2010. <g>

[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

Post by bransom » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:21 pm

It sure helps bolster the '80% done, 80% to go' line. I've recently patted
myself on teh back thinking it looks more like an airplane and that I can
actually see declaring a complete airframe (within the decade, mind you).
But then gad, it'll be time to make a whole new to-do list! :/
Fortunately, I'm crazy enf to enjoy building.

Surely some stuff like doors, fairings, and diddles are optional Ron!

[rebel-builders] Flight test plan

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:21 pm

Although the flight test plan I uploaded to the archives yesterday is
labeled first flight and has a bunch of stuff to test I agree with Ron. Get
up. Check engine gauges. Fly around making sure left is left, right is
right, up is ... Then slow her down at altitude and make sure nothing bad
happens at imminent stall. Then take her back to the barn. Check for leaks.
Open the Champaign.

My first flight test plan should be labeled "first few flights test plan".
