Thanks Bob ... sure doesn't need much runway !! And the climb rate is awesome. Not expecting any problems on the amphibs. Second flight I sustained a 2k/min climb out and the oil temp got up to and stabalized around 412 ... Hmmm. Pitch is doable ... but still a bit "neutral". All and all ... flew very well ... I like this airplane !! Will post some pics soon. Cheers, Bob 612e

Eric Fogelin

Post by Eric Fogelin » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:12 pm

Congratulations!

I haven't flown my Elite as a tail dragger yet; went straight to amphibs for
first and all flights so far (live on an island). I did have it on
conventional gear to move around, first engine start and a few taxi tests
for fun. And it was fun.

Your 2K ft/min climb rate sounds right and could be more with of a bit more
flying. I see climb rates of 1100+ ft/min with weights of 1900lbs on
amphibs. I am still working on cowl cooling issues so haven't started Vx and
Vy tests so nothing definitive yet.

Real curious about your Elite flight experience and performance numbers on
conventional gear. Let us all know.

Way to go.

Robert,
What engine, prop, and prop dimensions are you using? What is the weight
without fuel on wheels?
Regards,
Ralph Baker

Oops, typo ... meant 212 on the oil temp ... 412 might be a bit hard to
reach.

Walter Klatt

[rebel-builders] N567AK

Post by Walter Klatt » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:12 pm

Congrats Bob. Sounds like you have a good weight for an Elite. And getting
good climb performance too, with that 360 and the new wider MAM wingtips.
After flying with Dennis, I am a way more impressed with the Elite than what
I have heard before. I think that bigger tail gives a little more control
with landing. At least that is what I thought when I flew it on the water.
And the 360 with the MAM amphibs makes it a very good performer off the
water.
