[rebel-builders] Rebel Amphibian Height- alternatives

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:02 pm

I have seen some cleaver use of ramps in the past. At Santa Monica CA.
a
G-2 routinely went into a low but deep hangar with the tail about 3'
higher that the door-way using a wide ramp at the nose gear. The tow
tug would drive up over and down the back side of this two sided ramp.
The plane would be parked level this way.

Currently we have a C-185 on Ampibs at Placerville, CA. doing a similar
thing with a ramp for the two front wheels, he leaves it on the ramps
when inside the hangar and the tail is quite low when parked.

That helps with a door clearance problem, but not much for an antenna
clearance on top of the fuselage at a high point.
A few "bent whip" models of antennas are listed in the Spruce catalog,
which could be substituted.
Yes it is a bit of extra work, but if it is a means of getting into a
low hangar and out of the bad elements...might be worth it.

Just as long as it's not a nose down ramp, which would make the tail
higher going in the door? If you're pretty flat you're good to go.
