[rebel-builders] Parts sales

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi Craig !

The windshields still come from Murphy - as do engine mounts,
cowling, engines, propellers, and all the parts. Murphy owns
the tooling to make the windshields, and all the extrusions,
so you can only buy them from Murphy. The other suppliers
are wholesalers, and prefer to sell only to manufacturers -
they really aren't set up to deal with the public.

The only parts that will eventually come from suppliers
will be off-the-shelf hardware like nuts & bolts, rivets, etc.
We are still working through some of the existing inventory,
so it might be a while...

[rebel-builders] Parts sales

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:56 pm

I've have talked with LP Aero directly ( George Mesiarik-Vice President &
General Manager) and can confirm windshield sales are strictly though MAM as
a proprietary item. Was also guaranteed that LP would ship directly to the
customer within 5 to 7 days of receiving the PO# from MAM.

Note that the windshield is available in clear/green tint / gray tint and
the new UV tint as well just by asking. The UV model blocks all UVB and 99%
of UVA

Hey Bob, now there's an example of options that should be included on the

[rebel-builders] Parts sales

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:56 pm

Thanks Wayne !

I'm sure everyone knows that the windshields are drop-shipped
from LP, and the engines are delivered from Lycoming, etc., but apparently
some builders thought I was saying that Murphy actually manufactured these !
They don't, but they ARE the exclusive source for many parts. Early
Rebel kits, perhaps like Craig's, had a roll of Lexan supplied to use as
a windshield - He would have to order & buy a new plexi one if he wants...

To be precise, these PARTS must be ORDERED from Murphy -

Shipping@MurphyAir.com

Hope that clarifies things, and stops folks from harrassing
LP and others. I'm sure that's what Wayne wanted to say, too....

We have had tinted canopies for gliders for many years -
personally, I don't like them, as they change your view, especially
in low light, haze, or at night ! If the UV filter doesn't change
colours, that might be a good choice to protect yourself and
your upholstery, though ....

You're right, Keith. But my kit is old and came with the 1/16 flat piece
that you have to mold. I'm upgrading to the beefier one piece windshield
that shipped with the newer kits. Looks like I better put it on the MAM
list along with the amphibs! craig

I've have talked with LP Aero directly ( George Mesiarik-Vice President &
General Manager) and can confirm windshield sales are strictly though MAM
as
a proprietary item. Was also guaranteed that LP would ship directly to the
customer within 5 to 7 days of receiving the PO# from MAM.

Note that the windshield is available in clear/green tint / gray tint and
the new UV tint as well just by asking. The UV model blocks all UVB and 99%
of UVA

I'm going to need a windshield for my rebel. At an air show up here last
May, the company that makes them for Murphy wouldn't sell me one because
they agreed to not compete with MAM. It seems with MAM's new business
model, that wouldn't be the case now. Can you shed any light on this?
How are we doing on amphib orders?

Thanks, Craig

PS we bought our plane tickets for Oshkosh so that should be awesome.

[rebel-builders] Parts sales

Post by Walter Klatt » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:02 pm

One thing you guys in the States might want to take advantage of while you
can, is the Cdn dollar down at 78 cents. Just a few months ago it was at
par, so not sure how long these savings will last for you. Once this
financial crisis settles down and oil starts going up, I expect the Cdn
dollar will be back up too.

Walter

You're right, Keith. But my kit is old and came with the 1/16 flat piece
that you have to mold. I'm upgrading to the beefier one piece windshield
that shipped with the newer kits. Looks like I better put it on the MAM
list along with the amphibs! craig

I just recieved my windshield last week. It was backordered from
Murphy....I think I asked for it a couple of months ago. You should have
gotten a windshield with the kit as it was supposed to be included. My
problem is I never told Murphy to send it and had forgotten all about it
until the big panic a few months ago when people were saying they were
quiting the kit business so I figured I better get it ordered before I
can't get one.
