Alchohol in fuel

Post by Ralph Baker » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

Don't get me started on this! Biggest scam on the consumer in years and dangerous to us flyers. Ken is right! In addition, any two strokes are at risk. Water can separate out and cause lubrication failures. Alchohol does not have the heat value of gasolins so power / mileage suffer. OMC has a service letter out regarding alchohol contaminated fuel and prohibiting it in their E-Tec and fuel injected outboards. Go down to your OMC dealer and read a copy for yourself. I believe that the Jet Ski manufacturers prohibit any alchohol in the fuel and ALL the STCs for auto fuel in aircraft here in the USA prohibit ANY alchohol, i.e. they are void!

Couple that with what the market is doing to the cost of food or any corn based product and you can see the consumer is getting screwed so the politicians can take care of the farm lobby. If alchohol is so wonderful in the fuel then why is it it prohibited in so many uses? Personally, I go out of my way to not use ethanol fuel in anything but the options are decreasing.

One bright note, Rotax approves 5% ethanol in the 912 and Phil Lockwood said at a seminar at Sebring in 2007 that they had used 10% with not observable deleterious affects.
