caliper interference / oversize tires

Post by Ralph Baker » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:22 pm

Jesse,
I would not personally grind the caliper as without careful measurement it would be easy to grind into the fluid chamber. A spacer seems initially to be best. My preference would be to make a ring spacer, not washers. I did hear right back from Jeff at MAM and he asked for some pictures - which is reasonable. Those will be done tomorrow along with tire reversal on the rim. That will also allow for evaluation of how best to spacer the tire from the brake disc. My concern is bearing spacing/preload as well. It seems that 1/4" clearance would be a minimum to allow for soft tires and landing deflection.

Longer bolts should not be an issue once the proper length is determined. I will let the group know what the final solution is. Going back down in tire size is not really acceptable.
