DIESEL

BOB P.
It looks like you're 40+K wasn't to far off in you're first post.
It's $19,900 to replace after original set up.

AERO DIESELS GAINING MOMENTUM...
Although many skeptics predicted the government approvals would be years
in the making, German manufacturer Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH
announced last Friday that it has certified its 135-horsepower TAE 125
diesel for the Cessna 172N and P models.

Diesel

Some of the claimed "advantages" are marketing hype IMO. I'm not aware
of any two stroke engines that have a camshaft. "Half length"
crankshafts are found in all horizontally opposed and "V" engines.
Without a pressurized crankcase (like a chainsaw) you pretty much have
to have a supercharger on a two stroke engine.

Much as I embrace the future of aviation diesels, I would prefer not to
double the number of crankshafts and pistons. And the generally
cleaner emissions of a 4 stroke may be a consideration. I think I'll
wait to see if the diesel Soob appears. They will sell enough to solve
the single source parts and warranty issue.

They have models all the way up to about 450 hp, with more
cylinders/larger bore.... PRICE about $18,000 US !!!!
