[rebel-builders] Murphy Aircraft Delays

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:21 pm

You're right, Reid !
Thank you for your patience and understanding !

The gang at Murphy really ARE trying ! Darryl & Stephane
were in working all weekend, alongside the guys in the shop,
trying to catch up on production. It has just been a few months
of unfortunate events - illnesses, material delays, and staff
shortages from illness and/or defections to nearby companies.
Even Geoff and Jeff, from tech support, are down in the shop
helping, every spare minute they have - so please bear with them
if they can't return your phone messages immediately. Please DO
leave messages on the voice mail system, or email them -- just like
any large company (DuPont ...), you will not get a live person
answering the phone - this doesn't mean they aren't there,
they will get back to you as soon as they have a useful answer !

Being a bit short-staffed, the loss of a key worker, even for
a few weeks of illness, is keenly felt. It says a lot that Darryl is
in there working himself, on weekends. He doesn't want any
customer to be disappointed, and is doing his best, as a responsible
manager and owner !

Please hang in there - you WILL get your kits and your parts,
just as soon as they can get them done. As several people here
have said - it IS worth it, and you will have a GREAT airplane
when you are finished !! :-)

Folks,

I just moved to Canada in June from the U.K. The
entire western part of Canada (BC, AB, SK) is
exeriencing a sever shortage of labor. You can't even
get waited on at a restaurant. Be patient.

You Canadians need some of our illegals for your
factories just give them a down jacket and a pint at
the border crossing.

WALTER KLATT

[rebel-builders] Murphy Aircraft Delays

Post by WALTER KLATT » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:21 pm

It's very true, when I hear about the recession in the US and the market crash yesterday, I wonder if we are living in lala land here in BC. We have all kinds of foreign labour here, probably not all legal either, but just not enough workers, whether in low pay service jobs, construction, high tech or finance. Even the housing market is still projected to go up here another 8% this year. Have to wonder, though, if it is all going to crash here too. The one big visible bad sign is our lumber industry, which has been on the skids for a long time, is now all but shut down, with no housing starts in the US. So we have a lot of pine beetle forests now rotting.

Regarding Murphy though, have to say, that it is better to be in a position where you have more business and orders than you can fill than the other way around. To be honest, while they have had their ups and downs, I think this has been the case with them from almost the beginning. I still remember, many, many years ago, when I ordered my kit. I think it took more than 6 months, past the date I was initially given. Then when I ordered the amphibs, I remember that it took them over a year. But they always came through, and they always made right if stuff was missing, etc.

The important thing is that the product that you finally get flying is definitely worth it all, and more than exceeded my expectations. And this is a great support group, too, which makes a huge difference as well. So for me, certainly no regrets in my choice of the Rebel, and even today, can not think of another airplane that could better meet the mission that I use it for.

So if you guys can have a little more tolerance and patience, I'm sure you won't regret it in the end.

Walter

Jim Cole

[rebel-builders] Murphy Aircraft Delays

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:21 pm

Hi Walter, just to add to your thoughts - It's also comforting to note that
of all the kit plane manufactures that were started over the last 25 years -
Murphy is one of only a few that are still in business. When you look at the
quality of the airplane when you're finished versus the cost - I think it's
pretty good value. Also having a kit plane that is still being made is also
positive as far as resale value is concerned -- IMHO.

Cheers
