[rebel-builders] Email problems

Post by Mike Davis » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:10 pm

Hmmm... looks like both the sympatico.ca domain, and the prosumers.ca domain
have been black listed for sending spam. You're still able to send to the
list address because I don't do any spam checking on that address, since
only members are allowed to post. But my email address does checking, and
both those domains are coming up with hits in Relay Black List (RBL) servers
for being known spammers.

I've added your beep@sympatico.ca, and bobp@prosumers.ca addresses to my
white list, so both should work now.

Mike

Hi Mike !

I've been trying to send you an email, from 2 different
addresses, but they both bounced with the message :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.
The reasons given by the server are included to help you determine why
each recipient was rejected.

Recipient: <mike.davis@dcsol.com>
Reason: Return Path not verifiable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Wasn't an urgent message, but is this an indication of
another problem ??? (Wasn't Rebel-related ...) :-)

Thanks Mike !

Sorry to trouble you ! I can see Sympatico - I think they are
the largest ISP in Canada, so bound to have a few bad apples...
but Prosumers is my own domain !! .... unless, of course, some
unscrupulous spammer has 'spoofed' it .... :-(
( ...or maybe it's my long 'sigs' ... ;-) )

Will try again, offline. Thanks !

Ron Shannon

[rebel-builders] Email problems

Post by Ron Shannon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:10 pm

Bob,

Another possible explanation is that some ISP's (on the receiving end,
or perhaps an intermediate relay) are starting to require that all
sending domains implement the SPF protocol by which the sending domain
sets special DNS TXT records that verify which IP addresses may
legitimately be email senders for that domain. The error message is
typical of a rejection for lack of an SPF record for your domain.

If you don't already have an SPF record for your domain, it's easy to
add one in your domain's DNS records (see
http://www.openspf.org/Introduction) I believe an SPF record is even
technically required now under relevant RFP standards -- though the
majority of domains still don't have them.

Ron

Brain fade alert: make that RFC's, not RFP. Duh.
