Is there anyone on list that can give an honest weight increase of a Rebel on spring gear converted to amphibs? I am now 990 on spring gear with full interior and paint. What would I expect for an empty weight with the amphibs? Thanks to those who respond

It's been a while since I went from bungee gear to the 1800 amphibs, but I
recall my weight going up by about 250 pounds. I think my old wheels and
Matco breaks were lighter too. Given the spring gear is quite a bit heavier,
I would guess yours should go up by about 225 pounds, maybe even less
depending on which wheels and brakes you have.

Honestly I figure you'll weigh 1250lbs empty once you have steps/hydraulics
filled/paddles etc. What your W & B will say... I suspect 1201 lb ! ;O)

[rebel-builders] 1800 amphib weight
Hi There---My Rebel #331 is 1060 on spring gear and 1290 on 1800 amphibs.
Just imported her from
Florida and have a 1900 lbs gross with TC's blessing. The climb test clearly
indicated that she will haul
a lot more than the gross! Bob Cressman, Ottawa Valley

Thanks Bob, Wayne and Walter
Gives me an idea of what to expect. Have mine at 1800 lbs on wheels so with 5% rule, still gives me a decent useful load. Now have to decide which plane to put amphibs on- sell the Rebel and put them on the Glastar, sell the Glastar and put them on the Rebel! Decisions decisions...............
