Flaperon Frame Preservation

Post by Rich Dodson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:05 pm

Hi Guys!

So I built Flaperon number one, and I carefully applied AFS Waterborne Poly Primer/Sealer to it as a preservative coating. And despite the claim from the AFS factory that it was compatible with fabric coating systems, I wiped a little MEK on it as a test and it...failed. Came right off. Bummer!

I am told that, because fabric glue uses MEK as a thinner, AFS is a non-starter now. So, what to do?

Obviously, I can take off the coating on the flanges and skin that will touch fabric glue. What do I put on those surfaces? Zinc chromate? Two part Poly from Dupont? Nothing?

What do I coat the other three frames with?

Thanks!
Rich
