Hi Geoff
I'm doing an Elite so my wing design is probably different...but.... what
you say seems correct and I'd expect there to be no gap. Is the outside rib
the same size as all the other ribs ? In mine it is so there is no gap
problem. If this is your first wing can you compare the outside rib to one
of the ribs for the other wing (in the Elite the ribs are all the same apart
from the solid fuel tank ones)
It could be you have a deformed rib supplied ?!
Hope this helps a bit

Subject: [rebel-builders] Wing rib / rear spar
Hi all
Hopefully someone out there can help.
I have asked Murphy Tech, but at this stage no reply.
I'm in the process of attaching the rear spar of the right wing to the
outside wing rib.
I need a little clarification and direction please.
I have prepared the aileron hinge doubler on the outside of the rear
spar.
Now to the point of drilling through the doubler, the rear spar an into
the tail of outside rib.
I find that the tail of the outside rib is narrower than the rear spar
(see the attached photos for clarification)
You can see I have a metal ruler on top of the rib down over the spar
where the top skin would be.
If I leave it like this then the bottom of the rib is 1/4" high (note I
have put the aileron hinge on the table so you can see the gap at the
bottom).
I couldn't get the email posted to the builders log with the attachment,
if anyone wants I will separately post the photo. (if Mike will allow!!)
I don't believe it should be this way, (if you look at fig 10.5.1 of the
instructions the rib is on the table so the bottom skin flows onto the
back spar, like wise the top skin would flow down the rib and onto the
back spar, both are flush.
What am I missing?
Can I do anything about it?
If I even the spar top and bottom both will be out by 1/8", that doesn't
seem right.
Can you please point me in the right direction.
Regards
Geoff van Asch Rebel 798

Geof,
Can you post a link to the photo? This email list won't allow attachments, I don't think anyway. Or send it to me personally. I may me able to help. I didn't have any problems of this type on my wings. Curious to see what you are dealing with.

Boo!
[rebel-builders] Wing rib / rear spar
Geoff
How did this work out for you?
My memory is that the bottom wing skin should flow smoothly onto the
spar but it is OK for the top skin to bump up a little if the top of the
spar is a bit high. Suspect I adjusted the top rib flanges a bit to
smooth the transition a bit. Note that you may well have to "adjust"
the top spar flange up a bit anyway to provide clearance to the top of
the flaperon when it is deflected full up.

[rebel-builders] Wing rib / rear spar
Ken
Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you
If you look under Files/Rebel/Wing you will find a picture narrated - Geoff's
rear spar to rib mismatch, they were out by plus 1/4".
Long story - short, Murphy agreed the rear spars were sub standard and
have replaced
Thank you to Darryl and the Murphy team on that.
Back to the delight of building the right wing.
Thanks to the others out there for their input, Much appreciated.

That's good to hear Geoff.
MAM always came through for me as well when there was an issue with parts.
