The short part of the tailspring does go forward - you can
grind enough off so it lies flat. You can also grind the back
part to taper from full thickness where it is clamped, to
about 1/2 the thickness at the rear, to give some spring
action....
As for the spring gear ...... you should read the archives.
You have MUCH more to worry about than just the tube
walls - like a solid insert, AND the angle doublers, .... and ....
If you still have the 'ears' on the corner pieces, you
can still go back to the bungee gear !!! It's not too late !

Can anyone out there, that has installed a spring gear tell me? Do you have
to cut out the webs in the SG13and 14? or can I leave them just the way
they are? Is there structural factors hear.
As for the tail spring, does the short end of the bend go forward? I
believe it does! but doesn't seem to lay flat on the TS2. Also how much of
the thickness to you trim off? This thing is huge!
One more thing, I seem to have cut the tapper on the forward FUS-5
carrythrough to far back and I don't have enough meat for the forward
landing gear bolts? If I order stock from Aircraft Spruce, would it be
6061T6? I think that's right.
Thanks for any and all help out there! I do try to keep moving forward???
