[rebel-builders] moose/rebel powerplant

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:20 pm

Hi Chris

Robinson has lots of flight hours on his own unit which says much more
than most vendors. I agree with his conservative approach and keeping
things mostly stock.

I'm pretty happy with my Marcotte psru on the subaru. Not much written
tech info though so you are on your own a bit for venting and finding
the right amount of oil.

Hi. My name is Chris. I am still/again thinking of aquiring a moose but I am looking for opinions on the powerplant. I am tempted by the V8 for lots of reasons but am looking for opinions. Does anyone have any first hand experience with any of the PSRU options? Robinson, Vesta, geared?

Thanks

[rebel-builders] moose/rebel powerplant

Having been through a V8 design and installation from scratch I would not
recommend that unless the lengthy experimentation process appeals to you. I
would guess that the firewall forward added at least three years to my
project over installing a Lycoming as designed and I am still not finished
working out the bugs. I would, however, look into the firewall forward
packages that are available. The fact that Robinson has a flying Moose with
his V8 makes his package attractive. I am using a helical gear drive called
a CAM-500 and am very pleased with it. Unfortunately, the company that
makes it is going out of business. Too bad. Great guys. Email me off list
if you want to discuss the details of my installation.
