[rebel-builders] Pt.Dover

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:12 pm

Hi Drew
Just heading over to YQS to finish putting the Rebel back together. (
routine oil-change + float and engine maintenance + vacuum sand out of
cabin)
Yes, planning to fly into Dover tomorrow after 1pm (previous Dr.appt.)and
land on the lake.
Probably try for the beach west of the break-water.
I'm looking forward to witnessing the spectacle of humanity........Angus

[rebel-builders] Pt.Dover

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:12 pm

This Pt.Dover is on the north shore of Lake Erie in SWOntario, right by Long
Point.

Every Friday the 13th thousands and thousands of bikers descend on the Port
and access to the town is pretty much closed down by the shear numbers of
motorcycles and the police road-blocks. I live about 50 miles from there and
am near a main interstate type highway and the number of bikes coming by
for the past couple of days is amazing.

Anyway, with a Rebel on floats you can miss the traffic and road-blocks and
land on the lake, how cool is that!
Maybe we'll get some pictures...........Angus

[rebel-builders] Pt.Dover

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:12 pm

Well, after all that rhetoric the best laid plans fell apart this morning.
I got a call-in this morning for a 24hr shift for my Fire Dept job (at time
and a half). It seems too many guys from the opposite shift/squad booked off
work to go to Pt.Dover. I'm posted to a rescue/pumper on the 401/402
highways so I will get to see lots of bikes.
I'll have to watch Dover on the news.
The upside is that the Rebel is ready to go now........Angus

Drew Dalgleish

[rebel-builders] Pt.Dover

Post by Drew Dalgleish » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:12 pm

I missed it to Angus. The weather in Parry Sound was crappy all day so I
just stayed over till this morning. Today was a great day for flying
climbed on top of the broken cloud and made it from McKellar lake to
Centralia in 1.6hrs. ( Minimum drive time is 4.5hrs.) had an uneventful
landing then discovered that the right brake line was blown. A couple
piroettes in the middle of the runway then I got straightened out and made
left turns back to the hangar. I'm going to try to find some of those push
lock fittings for the repair. The die spring suspension seems to work much
better at absorbing the bumps than the old pucks did.

Well, after all that rhetoric the best laid plans fell apart this morning.
I got a call-in this morning for a 24hr shift for my Fire Dept job (at
time
and a half). It seems too many guys from the opposite shift/squad booked
off
work to go to Pt.Dover. I'm posted to a rescue/pumper on the 401/402
highways so I will get to see lots of bikes.
I'll have to watch Dover on the news.
The upside is that the Rebel is ready to go now........Angus

This Pt.Dover is on the north shore of Lake Erie in SWOntario, right by
Long
Point.

Every Friday the 13th thousands and thousands of bikers descend on the
Port
and access to the town is pretty much closed down by the shear numbers
of
motorcycles and the police road-blocks. I live about 50 miles from there
and
am near a main interstate type highway and the number of bikes coming by
for the past couple of days is amazing.

Anyway, with a Rebel on floats you can miss the traffic and road-blocks
and
land on the lake, how cool is that!
Maybe we'll get some pictures...........Angus
