Carb Heat System

Good Day to All:

My carb heat system is the wrap shroud that goes over the Exhaust pipe.Should there be a screen between the shroud & the Carb.What if a nut or bolt got accidentally dropped in shroud would it not get carried into engine and cause a lot off damage.If a screen is used where is it placed.
