Yep. The one I made is Z shaped with right angles exactly as you suggest.
Except, I added a slight additional bend to the right angled "Z" where the
retainer contacts the windshield to improve the contact at that point. The
FUS-13 is simply supposed to be laid across the cabin top, partway over the
windshield then riveted into the cabin top. The bends presumably are to
improve the pressure on the windshield once riveted. I, like you, thought
it was a very poor design, in fact, unusable for my 1/4 inch windshield. I
just thought maybe it would work better with a standard, thin windshield.

Guys,

I finally found my FUS-13 upper windshield retainer.
It is indeed a flat 'C' shapped profile. I am
confused, however, how it works. I can't figure out
how it works!? It seems like the wrong profile. I
would think something 'Z' shaped (but with right
angles) would be more appropriate.

Can someone tell me how the FUS-13 is supposed to be
installed?
