Fuel Filler

Good Morning All:

I am using the standard fuel filler neck/cap supplied with my Moose kit
which appears to be a product from the marine industry. Included with the
unit is a thick rubber gasket that fits between the skin and the mounting
flange of the filler neck. In test fitting these pieces, it seems that
using the rubber gasket will result in the filler neck standing off the
surface of the tank skin by a good solid 1/8" or better - not very
attractive. Any thoughts on whether I can omit the rubber gasket and
instead simply lay in a very thick ribbon of proseal in its place?
