Hi Rob The Fife tips you buy from Dave Fife. The McKenzie STOL kit Direct
from Angus. So delete the standard wing tips when you buy your kit. With
the bungee gear I'd reccomend using the die spring suspension available
from Wayne O'Shea so maybe delete the bungee suspension. To complete the
Ontario mods it's easiest to order an extra lower tail wrap to make the
doubler from. If you are equipping for night flying MAM has a nice leading
edge light kit. I haven't seen the window doublers but if you like the size
and shape of them it's probably cost effective to just buy them. Haven't
seen the tie down rings either are they retractable? For $40 I'd want them
to be otherwise just get them from west marine.

Or, if you're getting Dave Fife's wing tips (recommended) you could get
his optional landing lights in the tips. They're only another $25 or so
-- a lot cheaper than the MAM wing leading edge light kit -- and easier
to install.

Ask them to swap out your 6 Fus-10's for 6 Fus-70's... if they'll do it...so
you'll have 8 x Fus-70s @ .025 thickness. Some go the over kill to the Elite
.032 lower wraps...but it's just that overkill.

3 lengths of ST-28 (.032 stab spars) to use for the door sill in place of
ST-31's .020

Second pair of Fus-26's so you can sandwich and make the area below the door
sill a built up .040 or .040 raw material to transfer the existing .020
Fus-20's to it.

Spare .032 material to do the same with the outer Fus-25 panels.

Rear float attach points are the same for either gear set up. The forward
float attach fittings are only necessary for airplanes with the leaf gear
option and a PITA for change overs!

Yes you want the original necked fillers...not the flush ones...IMHO. Has
kept me out of the lake and off the hangar cement floor on numerous
occassions.

The Dorsal/Ventral fins are personal on the Rebel as far as I'm concerned.
No apparent quirks with any of the three I've flown on floats without either
fin installed. Howard had me add a ventral fin (pics will be on our CD) to
his...he said it made it stop skidding corners...I bet he just starting
using his pedals more while he watched the ball to confirm his new option
worked!

I prefer my own doubler plates to reinforce and sandwich the lexan in the
rear windows/skylights. You will need a fair chunk of .025 or .032 to do all
of them though. I think it adds some replacement strength to the alum you
cut out for the window opening doing it this way. I've seen the Fus-24 torn
diagonal thru the rear windows as it is.... even done this way....it would
tear easier with the floating window style doublers.

$40 tie down rings....forget that....hit the Spaneur website for other
options. I prefer a D ring with female thead to simply replace a nut on one
of the FIVE bolts to keep the shear strength of the attach fitting to the
wing.

Another option to the MAM dual brake pedal option..which I don't know the
price of.....contact an aircraft recycler and see what a set of Cessna or
Piper pedals will cost you. The Piper ones fit well in a Rebel.

Fife tips order now so you have them by the time you get to the wings
fitting.

I also believe that Angus is no longer selling his leading edge kit.

Put 2.5 on the Rebel yesterday, was thinking about putting somme
anti-freeze in the floats since I am still using them. What do you

Hi Drew !

I might be wrong, but I think it's best to build the complete
standard bungee gear. Wayne needs a measurement from the wheels
to the center butterfly, and it's very easy then to just remove
the original bungee tube and slip in Wayne's steel tube with
the die springs. This addition will give you THE best ride !

I think Angus is still looking for a new manufacturer for
his kits, but he might have ONE left in stock .... Otherwise,
I'm sure he will be shipping by the time the wings are ready.

Dave Fife's tips have an inexpensive landing light option.
And there are his tail tips, and flapperon pushrod fairings ...
Best to order early - unfortunately, he's 'WAY behind on deliveries ! :-(

The window doublers are a beautiful piece of work, nicely
joggled & sized, ready to install - pretty hard to duplicate
by hand consistently..... if you value your time, I'd go with
the factory doublers.

A dig through the archives will give a list of the extras
I usually add to an order for the Ontario Mods.

A couple chains will suffice for support while you wait for the struts. Just
be sure I'm in a positon to make them for you before hand. Murphy isn't
going to credit your account anything or take the alum bungee struts out of
your kit before shipping anyhow. Use the tubes for some shop creation in the
future! and make the kids a tree swing into a lake somewhere with the bungee
cord! LOL

My last set of currently available struts sounds like it's going to Oz for
an R2800 Renegade. I'll need some committments to order more steel after
that and keep in mind that I only do shop work from October 'till ice out
(May 1) now... as of last year.

FWIW I'd probably have Wayne make the spring struts about 3/8" shorter
if doing it again. I'm quite happy with mine but the springs sit about
1/2" compressed with puts a bit of camber on the wheels. It still works
well but 0 camber would look a wee bit better to me. Considering the
punishment we've given them, I'm glad I went with the die springs even
though I'm in the process of building floats.

I have a set of MAM's tie down rings that I'll sell a lot cheaper than
$40. if anyone wants them. They are stainless rings welded to a 5/16"
(I think) stainless threaded rod as I've seen in some marine stores.
We should probably bring our unused parts to the next Rebel meeting to
see if anyone needs them. I used marine stainless rings with a 5/16"
female thread and I replaced the second bolt from the wing with a
5/16" bolt. Much stronger although I tend to make things stronger than
required. I put some large washers under the ring to space it out a bit.

I'll get the firewall forward stuff later, since I still haven't
chosen an engine yet.

The only items I'm still not sure about are the window/skylight
doublers. They seem easy enough to make....any advantage to buying?
What about the $40 tie down rings?

Hi Ken !

I agree with making the spring struts a bit shorter ! Mine leave the
wheels sloping, and the Dico/Carlyle tires wear quickly enough without
that ... and it would look a bit better when not loaded. :-)

Best to order the 2 extra stringers with the kit - shipping on
full length stringers is expensive !!! If you need them later,
just for stiffeners, have the factory cut them to 5 ft. lengths,
or so - it's a LOT cheaper to ship !

My last set of currently available struts sounds like it's going to Oz for
an R2800 Renegade. I'll need some committments to order more steel after
that and keep in mind that I only do shop work from October 'till ice out

Are you guys both telling me that your wheels, while tucked in during
flight, go past center/perpendicular and look squatted sitting static after
a straight forward roll?

Makes no sense to me if you are as even my original set had my skis sitting
perfectly flat and I've made every set of struts since an extra 1/4" shorter
from what they were made at.

Also keep in mind that while touching down your are wearing the outside edge
as it is...making them even shorter would expediate the side wear.
